Hello FitFam,
Hope you’re doing well.
When we start exercising we constantly keep checking our progress. Often, this progress is tracked by the weighing scale. Now let me tell you one thing - Weighing yourself every day is going to weigh you down! Here are a few reasons why we should not weigh ourselves every day.
1. Fluctuations in weight: The human body weight can vary throughout the day due to factors such as water retention, digestion, and hormonal changes. Daily fluctuations in weight are normal and can be misleading if you’re looking for long-term progress.
2. Increased stress and anxiety: Constantly weighing yourself can increase stress and anxiety, especially if you become fixated on the numbers. This can negatively impact your mental well-being and may lead to disordered eating patterns.
3. Body composition changes: Weight alone does not provide an accurate measure of body composition. It does not account for changes in muscle mass, fat percentage, or overall physical fitness. Focusing solely on weight can disregard the positive changes happening in your body.
4. Disregard non-scale victories: Health improvements are not solely reflected in the number on a scale. Non-scale victories such as increased energy levels, improved fitness, and better sleep should also be celebrated. Weighing yourself every day can undermine these achievements.
5. Emotional well-being: Our self-esteem and self-worth should not be tied to a number on a scale. Our weight does not define us, and constantly obsessing over it can negatively affect our relationship with our body and self-image.
Instead of weighing yourself every day, focus on adopting healthy habits like regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and proper hydration. Monitor progress through more holistic measures like how you feel, improved energy levels, and body measurements if desired. Channelise your energy in the right direction.
